I haven’t used the remote access for awhile and cant remember my VPN password. My username is strappen. Can you let me know what is the procedure to recover?
email is vontrapp@optonline.net
thx
lost my VPN password. how do I recover it?
The Graduate Center’s remote access methods have been revised in the last year. You know longer need to use VPN software to use library resources, you can do so through a web browser using your Graduate Center Computing Account username and password. If you have not used the software in awhile you will need to contact our Information Technology department to make arrangements to reactivate your account. They can be reached at (212) 817-7074, see http://library.gc.cuny.edu/using-the-library/remote-access/ for a full description of the remote access service the library provides.
ECCO, WorldCat, and other databases are still giving me error messages.
A speedy restoration of service would be much appreciated.
Dear Anton,
Out testing indicates that remote access is functioning normally. Are you unable to access all databases or just some of them? Your message indicates that only some services aren’t working as expected. I think your computer might need to refresh it’s DNS settings in order to connect to all databases through the remote access server. To do this run the following command sequence on Windows:
1. Go to Start > Run and type “cmd”
2. Click “ok” and the windows command prompt will open
3. Type “ipconfig /flushdns” and hit enter.
4. This will reset your dns settings
Once you do this try the databases again and see if you can get in.
I can’t get into WORLDCAT. Have tried to do so for the last three days, with no success.
Dear David,
Please try the instructions I posted in my response to Anton’s comment. Your machine has probably cached a copy of outdated DNS information for our proxy server and needs to be reset in order to successfully connect to worldcat. You’ll need to:
1. Go to Start > Run and type “cmd”
2. Click “ok” and the windows command prompt will open
3. Type “ipconfig /flushdns” and hit enter.
4. This will reset your dns settings
Once you do this try worldcat again and see if you can get in.
I tried this earlier. When I type in CMD, I get “C:\documents and settings\David Nasaw; when I then type in “inpconfig…”, I am told “incomfig” is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
Sorry David. There was a typo in my comment the correct command to run is “ipconfig /flushdns”.
Discovered my problem. When I click “world cat” on Library Catalogues, Other Libraries, I am denied access. But when I go to “databases” menu and access World Cat through that, I get access.
Hi,
I’m having trouble accessing the database. I flushed my DNS cache but it didn’t help. My username & pass are correct because I use this service regularly.
I was trying to download endnote and it restarted several times without success (the internet comes in and out), so would that have shut off my account?
Thanks,
Jess
