SUPERVISOR: Serials Assistant; in absence, Associate Librarian for Collection Management
DUTIES: Unpacks and sorts the mail. Checks in new serial issues using Aleph500. End processes materials before shelving them. Maintains (shelves and straightens) serials stacks. Using Excel, creates a list of weekly issues needing claiming from EBSCO vendor; list is then given to Serials Assistant. Assists in the creation of serial publication patterns in Aleph500 and identifies serial titles in JSTOR. Discards old newspapers per retention schedules. Unpacks bindery shipments, end processes these materials and updates Aleph500 holdings records; gives paperwork to Serials Assistant. During staff shortages, assists other departments with workloads. Participates in all library shifting projects by moving materials using trucks. Retrospectively barcodes microfilm and non-circulating stacks materials. Cuts pages of materials that need separating. Keeps statistics on all materials processed. Assists in special projects.
REQUIREMENTS: Familiarity with computer applications and software as well as proficiency using Microsoft Windows desktop essential. Attention to detail a must. Ability to contribute to finding new and more efficient ways of processing materials faster without losing accuracy desired. Use of English language for all office correspondence, notes-keeping, and official documentation required. Must be able to lift books off shelves and push full book trucks.
HOURS PER WEEK: Ordinarily 10-15 hours/week M-F during regular business hours (9-5). Completed time sheets are turned into supervisor for review and processing.
