DUTIES: Facilitate borrowing and lending of library resources in a fast-paced, high-volume Interlibrary Loan department which processes over 30,000 transactions per year. Unpack and sort incoming mail, process incoming materials borrowed for library users and process returned materials borrowed by other libraries. Assist in lending materials to other libraries: processing electronically received requests, locating material in the library, pulling from shelves and sending via a variety of shipping methods and computer programs. Return borrowed materials to lending libraries, taking care in labeling, handling, and packing. Keep shipping area and supplies in order. During staff shortages, assist other departments with workloads. Involves a significant amount of packing and unpacking physical materials and learning a variety of computer programs specific to Interlibrary Loan, including ILLiad, Odyssey, and Ariel, as well as using library, UPS, and Fedex software.
REQUIREMENTS: Experience learning new computer skills and programs is a must as this position entails learning and using several specialized and often ILL-specific computer programs during the course of most days. Familiarity with computer applications and software as well as proficiency using Microsoft Windows desktop essential. Demonstrate success at jobs which require attention to detail. Familiarity with use of CUNY+ to locate material in the library preferred. Experience using library resources to locate electronically held items preferred. Use of English language for all office correspondence, note-keeping, and official documentation required. Must be able to lift books off shelves and push full book trucks.
