Library Openings: Cataloging/Metadata & E-Resources/Serials Librarians

The Mina Rees Library invites application for two library faculty positions: a Cataloging & Metadata Librarian and an Electronic Resources & Serials Management Librarian. Review for both positions begins January 31.

Closed Sat 22nd – Tues 25th

The library will be closed for the Holiday December 22nd until December 25th. The library will reopen Wednesday, December 26th for intercession library hours. Happy Holidays to All!

EndNote Going Away

After December 31st, 2012, the Graduate Center will no longer license EndNote and the library will be removing the distribution and download option, so we recommend that you download today, if you are an active user or there might be potential for use. Survey results: online dissertations do not deter academic publication

Recent surveys suggest that publishers do not consider an electronic online or open access dissertation grounds for book contract disqualification. See Jennifer Howard’s December 12, 2012 CHE article.

Microfilm Scanner Enhancements

The Library and Information Technology are pleased to announce, thanks to Student Technology Fee funding, the Powerscan 2000 Microfilm Scanner now has OCR (search PDF output) and auto-scan features. CAB Direct Trial

The Graduate Center has a trial through January 15 to CAB Direct, offering more than nine-million abstracts of articles in the applied life sciences.

My SpringerLink

The SpringerLink database has moved to a new platform, but My SpringerLink accounts have not been transferred. Those who have created such accounts must go to SpringerLink to create new ones. Any questions should be directed to Springer’s Online Service Desk.

Mina Rees Library often has books for sale on a cart in the 1st floor main area.

Books are older or duplicate titles weeded from the collection, or are gift books unsuitable for the collection. Many books are new. Books span across the disciplines.
