Interlibrary Loan
Back to Copyright Home
Interlibrary Loan is a service through which library materials not available or owned in a library may be requested for patrons from other libraries.
As a borrower, the Mina Rees Library adheres to Sections 107 & 108 of the U.S. Copyright Act, codes and guidelines, and policies established by cooperative arrangements among local libraries.
In order to comply with current law and guidelines:
- The library will request a photocopy of a journal article or reproduction of a small part of another work that-
- is not already available in the library in print or electronic form
- is to be used for private study, scholarship or research
- does not otherwise exceed copyright law or CONTU guidelines. Specifically, the library cannot request more than 5 articles within any calendar published in a periodical within five years prior to the date of the request. In these cases, copyright or commercial document delivery fees may be required.
- The library will not ordinarily request-
- books for placement on reserve
- a photocopy or other reproduction of an entire book (with some rare exceptions)
See page 33 of the "Copyright Guidelines for CUNY Libraries" for a more detailed description of Interlibrary Loan copyright policies.
