Chose commands from the EndNote tool bar or from the Tools menu > EndNote Submenu
The EndNote Submenu
This submenu can be found on the Word Tools menu. All the options are listed in text format along with an icon that matches the choice on the toolbar. How you select these options is a matter of preference. The options on the Toolbar and Menu are identical.
Until you become familiar with the icons on the toolbar the menu may be a better option.
Find Citation(s)/Insert Selected Citation(s)
Find Citations allows you to search your EndNote library based on keywords, author, etc. Once you’ve found the desired reference(s), click on the insert button. The formatted citation will appear in Word where the cursor was. Adjacent citations will be formatted together.
Another option is to search EndNote, highlight the desired citation and then return to Word and use Edit > Copy to insert an unformatted into your document. There is really no advantage to this method if you have Cite While You Write active.
Format Bibliography
The Format Bibliography menu lets you choose the style (particular journal format) for citations. You can also choose to enable or disable instant formatting. After making your selections, click OK to format citations within the text, and create a bibliography at the end of your document.
Instant Formatting (in Format Bibliography menu)
When instant formatting is turned on, each time you insert a citation, it’s formatted and the bibliography is instantly updated. Instant Formatting is on by default, although you may choose to turn it off as you work.
Unformat Citation(s)
This command reverses the formatting of selected citations back to author’s last name, year and record number.
Insert Note
Use this command to enter text notes such as ‘personal communication’.
Remove Field Codes
To save a copy of your final document without formatting codes, format the bibliography, and then choose Remove Field Codes to export the document to a code-free version.
