Instructions for Preparing & Depositing the Masters Theses

General Information

After you have completed your thesis and have an approved final version, make an appointment to deposit three unbound copies with the Dissertation Assistant in Room 2304 (2nd floor) in the Mina Rees Library of the Graduate Center (212) 817-7069.

The master's degree requirements are considered met on the date the thesis is deposited in the Mina Rees Library, the student's record is cleared, and all fees are paid. Students delinquent in their accounts with any division of the University will not be granted the degree.

The Dissertation Assistant may refuse to receive the thesis if it does not conform to the established standards [see Theses Preparation]. While the thesis may be deposited at any time during the year, please review the chart below for enrollment requirements and deposit dates.

The three deposit copies will be bound and distributed as follows: the first copy to the Library Archives of the Mina Rees Library; the second copy to the Reference section of the Mina Rees Library; and the third copy to the Executive Officer of the program.

The degree is awarded only on October 1, February 1, or on the date of The Graduate Center's annual commencement scheduled for May or June. Diplomas will be prepared for distribution only at commencement. After depositing your thesis, you will receive an interim certificate from the Registrar testifying to your completion of the degree requirements. You will receive information about commencement in April.
