Instructor Guide
Getting Started
- e-mail library-reserves@gc.cuny.edu to get a personal and course account
- include course name/number, # students, co-instructors
- instructors get 2 passwords:
- a permanent personal ERes pwd to manage courses page
- a changeable "course" password to distribute to students
- one pwd per course per term
Reserve guidelines
- 50 books per course
- personal copies welcome for closed reserve
Put books on reserve yourself
or... Ask the library to do it
- Course Reserve Request Form for all reserve items, in the library or not
- library staff link titles in ERes courses and modify CUNY+ status to "on reserve"
Put files (text, image, sound) on reserve yourself
or... Ask the library to do it
- library staff will scan for GC instructors not willing to scan or fax
- bring photocopied articles & chapters to the 1st floor circulation/reserve desk
- list complete citations on the Reserve Article Form
- staff will apply CUNY copyright guidelines
- no more than 50 articles per course
- staff will link to database articles when possible
- staff will place entire books on reserve unless time allows for scanning portions
- staff will not scan more than 1 book chapter
- scans remain on reserve for 1 term unless instructor obtains copyright permissions for subsequent consecutive use
Student Guide
The Course Password
- instructors provide the course password
- library creates passwords; instructors can modify
- course passwords for exam readings from department Executive Officer or APO
- readings online, full text, from anywhere
Finding Reserve Material
- search by course number, name, department, or instructor
- click on course number, enter course password, accept terms of copyright, click on book or article folders, and follow links to files or book records
- request reserve books at 1st floor circulation/reserve desk
- retrieve 3 -day permanent reserve from 1st floor reserve stacks
- anyone may borrow course reserve material for 2 hours
- unlimited renewals except if requested by another borrower
- overnight loans OK 2 hours before closing for return by 10 a.m. next day; 1 p.m. Sundays
- overdue reserve fines: $1.20/hour
- personal copies for inside the library only
- Library database articles require add'l authentication Off-Campus Research
- Double-sided printing
