Both receipts were drawn on accounts from the Bank of Geneva. On December 25, 1834, Howard A. C. Flagg, Comptroller, deposited $4,115.90 to the credit of the Commissioners of the Canal Fund. On December 27, 1845, Benjamin Enos, Treasurer, deposited $7, 005.71 to the credit of the Commissioners of the Canal Fund. Funding for the Erie Canal did not come from the federal government.</div>
