A thirteen page pamphlet consisting of a letter written by Robert Fulton to Gouverneur Morris dated February 22d, 1814 with the response by Morris dated March 3, 1814. Fulton and Morris, both supporters of the canal, exchanged letters on the subject of the canal. Advocating the use of tolls along the route, Fulton calculated the canal would yield $5,000,000 per year for New York. Morris replies that The great vivifying principle on which that nations' wealth and powere depend, that every thing which saves labor rewards labor.
