Description
A forty-six page annual report of the canal commissioners communicated to the legislature on January 15, 1819. This report was addressed to the New York State Legislature in obedience to the act entitled An act respecting navigable communications between the Western and Northern Lakes and the Atlantic Ocean which was passed on April 15th, 1817. Released before the completion of the canal, this document reports the progress, obstructions, and condition of the construction project. The report was submitted in Albany on January 25, 1819, by the Canal Commissioners: DeWitt Clinton, S. Van Rensselaer, S. Young; Myron Holley, and Ephram Hart. It includes an appendix which gives a detailed statement of contracts for excavation and embankment on the middle section of the Erie Canal; a table showing the location, dimension etc of the aqueducts, culverts and waste-weirs on the middle section of the Erie Canal; and, a schedule of the contracts for stone and for locks on the middle section of the Erie Canal.
