Reynolds began planning an office building on Lexington Ave. and 42nd Street with Van Alen as architect in 1927. Walter Chrysler took over the lease on the property in 1928. Chrysler continued working with Van Alen, who altered his original plans for an office tower to create an Art Deco skyscraper which was for two years the tallest building in the world. In accordance with zoning laws, the tower rose in a series of setbacks, each with its own decorative motif. The famous series of arches set with triangular windows which form the building&#039;s dome begin after the setback on the 59th floor and are topped with a 185-foot spire.</div>
