Dissertation Abstracts indexes two-million dissertations from over one-thousand institutions, with citations from 1861 through 1980 and abstracts since 1980. The digitized full text of most CUNY dissertations submitted to UMI since January 1997 is free for users within the Graduate Center and remote access. Note that some dissertation authors have chosen not to allow full-text access and that there is a gap of weeks or months between the time new dissertations are listed and the text becomes available. A guide to the database is available. Also see Finding Ph.D. Dissertations and Master's Theses. To limit your search to CUNY dissertations, include sc(0046) in your search statement. You may also click here to search separately for the full text of CUNY dissertations. Click here to search separately for full-text dissertations (for a fee) from other institutions. Note that you may perform these functions within Dissertation Abstracts as well. CUNY dissertations are available in the Dissertation Reading Room on the first floor of the library, near the reference desk on the second floor, and on microfilm on the second floor.
